2012/10/06 9:02 am / Leave a Comment / Bertus Kruger

We recently added OPENBEAM Aluminum Extrusions to  our range of products and we have been building all kinds of cool machines with the extrusions. The beauty of this extrusion design is that it replaced the normal expensive T-Nuts with M3 nuts that are readily available and cheap. We did however discover that M3 nuts are … Read More →

CNC Mill consisting out of less than 20 parts

2012/08/25 1:00 pm / Leave a Comment / Bertus Kruger

“The Mantis 9.1 design is a radical departure from version 8 and earlier. Most notably, the part count has been almost halved! The current design has 13 parts, all of which can be made with a handsaw and a drill press.” Building instructions and a bill of material can be seen at http://makeyourbot.wikidot.com/mantis9-1 If you … Read More →

Mad scientist shopping list : Evil Robot Claws

2012/08/08 1:00 pm / 3 Comments / Bertus Kruger

What would an evil robot be without a classic robotic claw? The team at Aquaticus has come up with a brilliantly simple design. I must admit their main goal might not be to take over the world but I am sure this design can easily be upgraded with a stronger  stepper-motor and a few pressure … Read More →

Opensource CNC controller written for Arduino’s (G-code interpreter GRBL)

2012/08/05 1:00 pm / 11 Comments / Bertus Kruger

Traditional CNC machines used old-fashioned printer / parallel ports to connect to a computer. The computer then sends the signals to the motor’s over individual cables. So why would you want to use a Arduino powered CNC controller? Well the team from Dank that developed the software called Grbl have a few good reason for … Read More →

Opensource Laser Cutter Project

2012/08/02 2:59 pm / 2 Comments / Bertus Kruger

I found this really nice project showing how easy it is to build your own laser cutter using an Arduino to control it. The team at Nortd Labs has been very busy finalizing the project and they have specifically focused on laser cutting, software, and making the building process repeatable.
